Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.
Then up got Jack and said to Jill,
As in his arms he took her,
“You’re not hurt! Brush off that dirt.
Let’s go and fetch the water.”
Said Jill to Jack, “I hurt my rack
And lost a shoe while falling.
As though you care, you clumsy bear.”
And then she sat there bawling.
Jack took her hand and toed the sand
And told her that he loved her.
“Was it the left?” he asked bereft.
“Or did you hurt the other?”
“I hurt them both, you stupid oaf;
Our fall was quite a bad one.
At least your crown came tumbling down;
I don’t know why you had one.”
A man signs a shovel and so he digs.
